  Eighty dollars for a domain renewal? Can anyone give me a clear explanation as to why this is necessary?

  In the case of your domain slimyoungparsnip.com, even though it had expired, it was still in a grace period during which it could be renewed for the regular price. I will send you an email with further instructions, please look out for it.
