Is free feature really free for making a blog?

  Seeing the ad I tried to create a free blog? I chose free feature. But as soon as I tried to create the name of the blog it comes “Use it for your blog for $17 a year?”. Is this call a free blog? I do not know exactly what does it mean. I tried in the free feature and haven’t not upgraded. Now I’m in dilemma whether the so-called free blog is really free with no hidden cost whatsoever or just a trap. I will be immensely grateful if anyone could sincerely explain to me, preferably the assistants of worpress.com, you may check it at “karbijati.wordpress.com/wp-admin/” .

  The base blog (the one linked to your name for instance) is still free – the $ 17– refers to domain mapping and registering your own domain – I think I saw a post a day or two back that indicates that there was a change to the registration of a free blog to show the domain mapping option more prominent – but it seems they might have gotten a bit carried away and made things a bit more confusing – but you should still be able to register a plain free blog – just look for some sort of check box or something and undo it or whatever (I have not registered a new site in a while) –

  If you still have trouble registering for a free new site then contact the staff: http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ – maybe with enough feedback they will fine tune the process again.

  In the past people had trouble figuring out how to register a domain name to their blog – maybe the pendulum has swung a bit far in the other direction.

  The blog linked to your username is http://karbijati.wordpress.com/ and it is a free blog being free hosted by wordpress.com. The free features that apply to that blog are listed here > http://wordpress.com/features/

  The option of purchasing your own domain name and domain mapping to that free hosted blog so the “wordpress.com” is gone is what’s being offered to you. If you do not wish to purchase your own domain name and domain mapping do not worry about this. Blog on!
