Is it possible to move my web host to WordPress or not.

I started a wedsite that is lifestreamawareness.com and the host is in Mexico where I live. I need to change the site to a new host and then begin modifying the site. I think the issue is that my site was set up by a programmer so that a person can enter my becoming a member and then each member can utilize a form that is allows them to enter all important events and dates in their life and to then enter emotion codes for certain events. This form is then used so that members can “process” a persons Lifestream according to a five step protocol or guide sent out to each member separately. Lots of words here but I wanted to explain a bit about the challange of moving this site. The short versión…help…I’m lost! If an angel helper-volunteer cares to look at the site I can give a passcode.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This sounds like it is something that is beyond what can be done at WordPress.com as it would likely take some plugins or custom programming to accomplish using WordPress.

It could be that you could transfer all of the programming and all the website files over to a web host here in the US (someone like GoDaddy, Bluehost, etc.) and then you would not need to do any reprogramming. This could be quite simple to do, or it might be complex. It depends on how things were done.

Don’t give your password to anyone.

What you might want to do is to post your question over in the self-hosted WordPress forum at http://wordpress.org/support/ and give them the URL of your site so they can take a look (don’t give them the password either).

Basically, no, you cannot host a site like that on WordPress.com. Our security restrictions mean that the code you’d need to manage that would be stripped out here.

Great to receive your two responses to my question so quickly and I thank you both for that (thesacredpath) and (raincoaster). Maybe there is hope for me getting this project off the mark.

If a website separate from WP is needed then I would look to either GoDaddy or Bluehost for that….going by the recommendation of
Belsien in his website called wppowerguide.com I will look closely first at Bluehost.

So my next step then is to find out if my existing site, lifestreamawareness.com, is easy or complicated to have dropped into another host site with Bluehost or GoDaddy (I also will be changing the domain name but that will not be an issue). What I offer in the website is free so I suppose going to a .org domain name should work if the .com is not available.

After looking at WP bloggers, I am now convinced that I should start my blog site here at WP. It will become the communications or circulatory system for my work and the separate website will be the heart. Both, of course, will be tied closely together.

Before going for a new host I will now do as suggested by thesacredpath and post my question over in the self-hosted WordPress fórum when I find it. Hopefully I can get a resolution soon and move my site. All comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Nice to know you volunteers are reading and responding and I send you my gratitude for that.

WordPress.com and WordPress.org are separate and have separate logins. If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

Thanks timethief, I made that journey to .org and I’m back. Quite a trip. Seems that I would have to do a self-hosting gig to get a website up with WP so I guess I need to look to transfer my site into Bluehost.

The problem that remains is I do not know how to “transfer” an existing site. Also, I probably need someone to look at my site and tell me if the format is transferable to a new site and how changes could be made in the format. Maybe format isn’t the right word? Program? See my problem?

You hire a web host, set up a WordPress.org install and then move you content by export and import. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/

Back after much research. I have posted a job add in WP seeking someone to help me move my site to Bluehost using WP. I found out my site used a hand coded format to créate the site therefor I need to rewrite the contentl. The site is actually quite simple. It is designed to record dates, events and allows for a ranking of events. A summary print-out is made available retty much like a spreadsheet. But, I do need help in re-formating the site and moving it to another host. The annual expiration with my current host is June 4 so I need to get it off there quickly. I should say that this site is not active and are no users to contend with. Also, the site itself along with an e-guide that I developed is being offered. All is quite like a spreadsheet. The site is free for those wanting to be guided through what is termed a LifeScanning Process or protocol (Life Review). I am willing to pay for someone to help get this up. I can be contacted (email visible only to moderators and staff)

We do not provide website design services. If that’s what you require then hire a codepoet. The Code Poet Directory lists Enterprise-level WordPress professionals, web designers, and developers. It’s brought to you by Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com and the largest operator of WordPress sites. http://directory.codepoet.com/

We cannot help you here at all with any WordPress.org issues. The two sites are completely separate.
