Is my account email public?

    I recently received an email from a visitor to my blog, but no comment was on the site. How did they contact me? Is my account email publicised somehow? I don’t want dialog with people through the site.

    Hi there, if you have notifications of new comments enabled, it is possible that the comment initially cleared our anti-spam gatekeeper, Akismet, but then later was flagged as spam.

    Another possibility is that this was someone who sent you a message via your site’s contact form, which doesn’t show up on the site itself, but in a special dashboard on your site.

    Unless you reply to the email notification of the new comment or contact form submission, your email address is not visible to the user.

    However, if you are logged in to your WordPressdotcom account when you leave comments or submit a contact form on someone else’s site, your email address is visible to the site owner and verifies you as a WordPressdotcom user. You might want to consider setting up a special email address which you then use only for your web activities rather than using your personal email address.

    I don’t want dialog with people through the site.

    If that is the case, you might want to remove the contact form. You can either delete the page entirely, “unpublish” it by reverting it to a draft page, or change the page visibility to “private” which will then only be visible to you.
