Hello,
I have a client with an established website that they want to keep. They want to open & maintain a WP.com (not.org) blog, and have the first few lines of each new post show on the website’s news page. To read the full post, the reader would click through to WP.com.Is this possible? The client had WP.com in the past and is familiar with & likes the way of posting – .org is out of the question.
Any help is appreciated.

Can they put a RSS feed display of some sort on their web site? All blogs here have RSS feeds – just plug the feed URL in and good to go

Yes, provided the website can draw from an RSS feed.
Every wordpress blog has an RSS feed for comments and for posts (entries). This is the URL for the feed for your blog’s posts (entries):
http://nameoftheblog.wordpress.com/feed/if the website is not set up to draw form feeds we do not provide support for that here at WordPress.OM. In that case, on the webiste you will have to write something in PHP or javascript to do that. Here are a couple options:
