issue with complete backup of my blog
-
Hi
Not sure it is the right place to ask. But i am stuck with this issue. I am holding a blog at wp.com. Recently i got a new domain and server for my existing blog. So this means i need to get backup of everything from my existing blog from wp.com. But somehow i am not able to figure it out after reading the post from http://codex.wordpress.org/What i got is below what i followed but not sure that it is OK. Please help me if steps are not fine.
1) I did a tools->export from my existing blog and got the .xml on my local machine. Is this the complete backup(sql database and all files) of my blog?
2) I installed wampserver on my pc. Installed the exact theme as my blog to pc. Installed the importer plugin. Then from Tools->import-> the .xml file which i just downloaded from my wp.com blog. Now from local machine i can access the site locally. So is it all with backup stuff? Or some other stuff is needed before installing to the new server and domain.
Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

the instructions you got were for a WordPress.ORG install not a WordPress.COM blog.
For more on the difference: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
You did the export / import thing which is the correct thing to do when moving a WordPress.COM site.

so like i cannot take a complete backup(sql database and all files) on my local machine. As i want to discontinue my wp.com blog and move completely to the new server and domain with all the data.

You don’t have access to the database files on WordPress.COM. If you want to move your blog to another host then the Export from WordPress.COM and Import into your new site is what you want to do.
You have access to the database files on your PC install but you will need to get help for that over at WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using.

We don not have access to sql file and the database on WordPress.com blogs. Please read: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
What you can do is export XML file containing all your blog content out of your WordPress.com blog and import it into a WordPress.org install. It will contain your contain your posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags.
Once you’ve saved the download file, you can use the Import function on another WordPress site to import. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-orgYour theme and all the contents in your text widgets will not be exported. However, the Twenty Eleven theme version for WordPress.org will be in the install as its the default WordPress theme. You will have to copy and paste any text widget content to move it.
