I've been told three times now that the certificate for this website it invalid

I post a blog and am told “The certificate for this website is invalid.”

I’ve had suspicions my computer is being remotely controlled, and I wonder if this is part of it.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Jean,

This occurs when a visitor to your site tries to load your page over an HTTPS connection. Basically, the browser is looking for a certificate from paradigmsalon.net. Instead, it sees a certificate from your default WordPress.com address (address.wordpress.com). The mismatch triggers an error.

Fortunately, most users are going to be visiting your site over an HTTP connection unless they’ve set their browser up to prefer a secure connection (most haven’t). There are two ways around this:

    • You can set an exception within your browser to ignore the certificate mismatch. The browser sets up a temporary exception when you click through the error. You can setup a permanent one within your browser settings.
    • Avoid using an HTTPS prefix when visiting your site

Unfortunately, it isn’t possible for us to issue a certificate that makes it possible for visitors to view your site over an HTTPS connection without first setting up an exception.

Let me know if you have any additional questions!

Is it supposed to occur when I myself try to post a blog I’ve just written?

    Hi,

If you’re trying to view your site over an HTTPS connection (that is the link begins with https), you will experience the error message to. However, if you click a link to your site through your Dashboard like the “View” links under your posts here:

    https://paradigmsalon.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=post

You should not experience the error as your link should default to HTTP. Does that make sense?

Can you let me know the steps you’re following to see the error message?

No, I don’t use an https://, and it happens when I’m finishing a blog and just click “Post.”

    Hi Jean,

Can you let me know the URL in the address bar after you click “Post”? It should read something like this:

    https://address.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=17602&action=edit&message=6&postpost=v2

I’ve been editing all morning and updating my post each time, but it hasn’t done it today. I’ll definitely reply again when it happens next.

Now, this is what it reads:
    https://paradigmsalon.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=1760&action=edit&message=1

Ah ha! The “https://” was NOT there in the address, at least not visible. It only showed up when I copied and then pasted it here.

What do I do? Not use a secure connection??

    Hi Jean,

The URL you mention looks like it’s too an “Edit Post” update when you saved a draft of your post. Admin URLs (to links on your blog like the Edit Post screen) will have an HTTPS prefix. However, public facing URLs should not. Those should default to an HTTP prefix. So, when you click links around your blog like a regular user, you shouldn’t encounter the error. Does that make sense?

To your question, yes, the main solution is to not use an HTTPS prefix. Alternatively, you could setup an exception in Safari. When you attempt to reach your blog over an HTTPS prefix, you’ll see a notice of the error. If you click “Show Certificate”, you’ll see a screen like this:

    Screen Shot 2014 06 17 at 5 25 35 PM

Just check the “Always trust..” box and click “Continue”. That should remove the error message from your side.

Thank you. I’ll save this for reference.
