Jetpack asking for my Private Key

    Jetpack is telling me I have a threat on my website. Before it can help it needs access to my server (SSH/SFTP credentials). The only field I don’t know is when it asks for a private key. Where do I find that private key? How do I create one? Is it a Jetpack private key or a WordPress.com private key?

    It sounds like you are needing help with the Jetpack plugin, but have landed on the support forum for WordPress.com sites instead. Because of this we are limited in how we can help.

    The only field I don’t know is when it asks for a private key. Where do I find that private key?

    If you are using the SSH connection method, you will need the private key from your hosting provider. You may need to reach out to them to get this if you are not able to look it up within your hosting account.

    If your host doesn’t allow SSH access, then SFTP is the next best option. If you are still having trouble connecting even after entering the required credentials, please reach out to the folks over here in Jetpack support and they are in the best position to take a closer look and troubleshoot, thanks!

    Hi

    Thank you for your feedback. It turns out that because I am on a Bluehost Managed WP package that I don’t need a private key. After a number of attempts trying different inputs, I’m connected! Thanks again.
