Jetpack upgrade errors on WordPress.com hosted site (solved)
-
I moved my site from a self-hosted .org installation to a WordPress.com installation with a custom mapped domain a while back.
I definitely had Jetpack installed on the self-hosted site, but obviously plugins aren’t a part of WordPress.com. So I was confused to see Jetpack upgrade errors (and for different versions) several times on my site, always associated with the new editor screens.
I didn’t see anything else about this problem in the support forums so I figured I’d post where I saw the errors and where I went to get rid of them.
Solution:
I went to my stats page where I could see the full list of all my sites:
https://wordpress.com/stats/dayGoing to the site settings for the custom domain gave me the option to “disconnect” Jetpack:
https://wordpress.com/settings/general/{custom domain}With Jetpack “disconnected” for the custom domain, I could go back to viewing the links that had been giving me errors!
Where I saw errors previously:
When I went to my themes admin page, for example, I saw a message that said:Your version of Jetpack is out of date.
Jetpack 3.7 or higher is required to see this pageThis is absolutely not on a .org installation – I get it at https://wordpress.com/design/{custom domain} (admin view)
I could get to the themes page by going back to the wp-admin view at
https://{username}.wordpress.com/wp-admin/themes.phpI also saw a Jetpack upgrade notice when I entered the new post editor view on my site at https://wordpress.com/posts/{custom domain} (admin view, too, of course)
Jetpack 3.3 is required to take full advantage of all post editing features
Going to the wp-admin version never displayed any of those errors:
