Just curious, for future reference!

As a fairly new user and avid writer, is there a way to see who shares my posts on facebook?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Not exactly.

As you may have noticed the Facebook button at the bottom of your posts will provide a share count. For example your most recent post has been shared on Facebook 12 times now.

When a reader shares one of your blog posts onto Facebook from the integration button on your site the post is shared as an attachment of sorts. There is no text (such as the title, or the URL that links to the blog) that is put into the text field of the Facebook post. When you use Facebook’s search feature it is looking for content in their own text field, so it will skip over any content of the attachment.

Furthermore we also face the issue of WHO is sharing your content on Facebook and HOW they’re sharing it. Even if Facebook’s search feature combed for the URL of the attachments (or if the user pasted the URL into the text field within Facebook) then you still wouldn’t be able to see the shares of anyone who has a private Facebook account or shared your blog privately.

The closest thing I could find was the strange loophole described on this page (but again, won’t help you if it’s privately shared):

WordPress.COM does not have access to the information re: who shared your posts on the Facebook site. The only records here are the records of how many time the Facebook share button was clicked on the posts themselves on your site.
