Keep having connection timeout

    I’m a total newbie and have no idea how to speed up my site? I’ve read/heard about PHP and I’ve used Ryte (recommended by WordPress article) which said I have a connection timeout. I’m looking in site health and there are multiple improvements:
    1) to update my PHP apparently
    2) Error Some files are not writable by WordPress: wp-load.php
    3) 301. htaccess is not enabled.
    4)… it goes one

    All this is jargon to me and I just need someone to tell why my site is slow and show me how to fix it. I’m ready to cry.
