Keep short message at top of blog

I’m in the process of setting up my blog (so I have much more work to do in order to make it look nice). I’d would like to keep the first paragraph of the post of my main page visible from here on. I can’t seem to find directions for possibly cuting and pasting (that I know how to do) and then keep that one pragraph visible no matter how many other posts I add.

What would be the pros/cons of keeping that always visible??

Thanks so much for your help!!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Cons:
    – sometimes setting a post as sticky interferes with your RSS feed, which is very bad. There’s no way to know if yours will have this effect until you try it and then make a new post and check the feed to ensure the new post went out on it.

    – it can bore regular readers, particularly if it’s a lot of text. If it’s quite a lot of text, most will just leave instead of scrolling down past it.

If you want to do it, either use the Vigilance theme alert box, which you can see in action here: http://theshebeenclub.com or make the paragraph its own post and make that post Sticky, which is an option you’ll find under Edit, on the right-hand side under Visibility.

THANK YOU!! for all the info – at least I can make an informed decision now. Think it might be best to leave well enough alone at this point. THANK YOU THO!!

Alternative: go to Appearance>Widgets, add a Text widget to your Sidebar, put that paragraph there, click Save.

In that case, read this before you get surprised:

Other alternative (after you publish more posts): go to Pages>Edit, click About, paste text there, click Update Page.

Both alternatives free of the cons raincoaster mentioned.

Second alternative means paste the whole text into the about page then delete the post.
