Keep site as is but build a new WP site to take over soon?
-
Hi. I want to build a new website in WP for our local non-profit club. We have a very old fashioned website already up and registered and hosted. I have been asked to build a new one and eventually it will be hosted by a different hosting service. I am wondering if I can build a site without going through the transfer of the hosting service just yet. I have a committee that will need to approve the site before I go ahead and publish it. What can you suggest?

Hi there,
First you’ll need to decide whether you want to use WordPress.com or run the open source WordPress software at your own host. You can read a bit about the difference here:
If you go with us on WordPress.com, you’ll be able to work on your site at a free WordPress.com address, and you’ll even be able to set it to private so only you and people you give access can see it.
If you’ll need to use plugins, you will have to purchase a business plan and connect a domain to do that, but we can help you with a temporary domain until you’re ready to connect your site to your actual domain.
If you’d prefer to go with the self-hosted option, most hosting providers offer monthly payment plans, and on a host like Pressable or Bluehost it’s possible to build your site on a temporary domain they provide until you’re ready to connect the actual domain.
So either way, there are ways to start building your new site while the existing site still stays online.
Please let me know if you have any more questions about this.
