Launching e-learning modules

    Hi,
I’ve created e-learning modules that I would like visitors to my site to launch and view. The e-learning modules are published to display in html so that they can be viewed in a browser. When published, a module includes a series of html files organized into folders with the course content, images, etc. When I publish the module, I can include all of this into a single zip file.

I would like to place links on a separate page that would launch modules when clicked. To do so, so far I created a page (titled e-learning), uploaded the zip file for a module into my media library and created a link on the e-learning page to that zip file. Works ok, except that when I access the page and click on the link, I see options to download the zip file or open it. If I open it, I can see all the files included but must then navigate to the index file to launch the module.

I would like to add a link on the e-learning page to the index file of each module so that the module is launched when the link is clicked. How do I do that?

    Thanks,
    J-M

  • Hi there, we have a few ideas about how this might work, although it isn’t WordPress-specific.

    1) You could organize your files so that only the index file is at the folder’s root, and put all other files in to separate sub-folders. This could make it more obvious which file the user needs to click to launch the module.

    2) You could create a screenshot with an arrow pointing to the index file, to show users where it is.

    3) You could include a readme.txt file at the same level as the index file, telling users which file they need to click.

    4) You could experiment with some of the self-extracting executable zip software that exists. Much of it creates exe files that can only run on PCs, but you could do some research to find a Mac version too.

I hope some of these ideas are helpful. If you need anything else, just let us know.
