Liking a post

It would be nice if, when you ‘like’ an article or comment on this site (via email), that it didn’t make you open up an entire new page. It’s very annoying when I’m going through email and just want to like something but I have to open up a whole new page and like it, instead of it just showing up on the site, from my email.

  • Hi there,

When you click Like from an email notification, that triggers an API call to our servers, and that API call must run in its own browser tab. The only way this could happen without opening a new browser tab is if your email client was directly integrated with WordPress.com, and designed to submit the API call invisibly in the background.

I agree it would be nice if it could work that way, but that’s not how the web, and web browsers, work, unfortunately. With WordPress.com and your email being managed by two completely different services, with no shared codebase and no other intrinsic connection between the two, it’s simply not possible.
