link goes to wrong page
-
this is an odd problem i’m having.
i have my permalinks set up as /%postname%/ because i’m using a blog as a homepage.
i’ve made the links in my header menu bar correspond accordingly.
for some reason, though, even though i have all the urls and slugs set correctly (quintuple checked), ONE of the menu bar links does not go to its page.
so i went to manage posts and clicked view on the post I had created. and it does not find the post and heads over to one of the “you clicked on a link that doesn’t exist” type pages.
here’s the weird part. if I change the post slug, i can then view the post, but strangely, the url in the header menu (though unchanged – i wrote it in manually) points to the NEW slug… so I changed the slug, and lo and behold, the menu link points to any slug BUT the URL it’s coded for.
anyone have an idea what’s going on?
thanks!

okay, now this is really weird…
so I had used a meta to originally link the blog post to a PAGE called contact with the same PAGE slug as the original post slug… I deleted the page and the meta link which caused the break…
So I recreated the page, gave it the page slug contact and saved it. i then changed the page slug to contact-break and saved it again. and voila! the links all directed to the post instead of the page, including the hand-coded header url as well. i then deleted the page and it all stayed working…
i suspect the plugin i was using to allow the link to a page is responsible but why would the header menu url (../contact/) point to the right page no matter what its permalink structure was?

Hi. If you’re using plugins and have the ability to change your urls, you must be self-hosted. If so, you need to be at wordpress.org/support for help.
This is wordpress.com.
