I am using Edin theme. My LinkedIn button is showing but when you click it – it goes to an error message from LinkedIn that says there is no link and shows you how to search for users.
I have cut and pasted my LinkedIn URL – did not work
I have simply put in my First Name and Last Name – didn’t workHow do I do this?
DorisThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I just tried your website and was able to reach your linkedin account immediately. It looks like you fixed it yourself!

I am having this same issue and have tried all the same things you did, including getting the same error message when I text it on the live site.
How did you resolve this?
My blog is takingtheplunge2.wordpress.com
Thx!

Hi
It was one of those silly little things. As I recall the problem was that I had copied by LinkedIn URL which was fine. BUT LinkedIn already had populated the box with the https://, so it rejected linking me because the URL was incorrect.( as in it had two https showing ) So I just truncated my copying of the link so that I could shorten it so that it would work with LinkedIn.Hope that makes sense.

I am so glad it worked out.
These silly things can drive you crazy, not to mention waste a lot of time.
Good luck ! -
I am having a similar problem but with a Company Page on LinkedIn, when I copy the URL across, even just part of it, it seems to be adding in the “/in/” into the URL automatically which I assume points to individuals rather than companies on LinkedIn therefore making my page link to some random man in Oslo rather than the intended company page – any suggestions?

If you know what LinkedIn is doing automatically can you work your URL out so that it is in the right configuration for LinkedIn? I am not sure what the configuration is for a company as opposed to an individual. I suppose you could look up a company on LinkedIn and note how they display the URL there and then adjust yours in the same way?
Have you tried asking LinkedIn how to do this- since it is probably their issue not a WordPress issue?
Sorry this is the best I can do. Also if you scroll up you will see that politicswithcoffee was going to respond but I had fixed my own problem. Maybe you could approach him/her for ideas?
Good luck.

Here’s a work around for linking to Company pages in Linked in.
Add a Text widget to the side bar using the code from: https://socialmediawidgets.wordpress.com/

I am trying to add the social media icons to my site (Gateway theme), put the ‘username’ that WP asks for, and save. When I click on the icon, I get an error message. Am I supposed to put the URL of the page where WP asks for username? Weird.

We cannot help you. This is the wordpress.COM support forum. We provide support only for blogs hosted here. We do not provide support for sites hosted anywhere else and that site is not hosted here. You are posting to the wrong support forum.WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.
