Links for titles to Amazon.com

I have 2 blogs in which I recommend books. One is preparingforisrael.wordpress.com (to help travelers prepare for a trip to Israel). The other is chrisdavisrecommends.wordpress.com (a list of books I recommend to homeschooling parents) This second post is new and has not yet been populated with my recommended titles. I would like to link each title directly to Amazon.com. I have read the following at your site and it has left me wondering what I am allowed to do: “Most affiliate links for reputable merchants are welcome on WordPress.com. Feel free to post relevant affiliate links when blogging about books you’re reading, music you love, clothes that strike your fancy, gadgets you’re drooling over, or whatever is of interest to you and your readers. We hope affiliate programs help you earn a financial reward for all the hard work you’ve invested in your blog. However, because we’re dedicated to keeping unwanted commercial messages from cluttering the WordPress.com experience, there are some restrictions in place that you should be aware of.”

Please let me know how to continue. If I need to change over to wordpress.org, I don’t know how to do that and maintain these 2 blog addresses. Thanks for your help. Chris Davis

  • If the primary purpose of your WordPress.com blog is to earn money via affiliate links, then it is likely that you will run afoul of our Terms Of Service.

If you are an active blogger with useful content who happens to have some referral links, then you are probably just fine.

What if I change the blog to a wordpress.org site. Would that work? I am a long-time homeschooler who used to own a homeschool supply company and homeschoolers are still looking to me for curricula recommendations. I need to create a list for them and, of course, want to link them to Amazon and I will be an Amazon affiliate. I only think this fair if I am going to all the trouble to create the list for everyone.

    How about “.org”?

  • There are no limitations on what you can or can’t do with a self-hosted site using the software available at WordPress.org.

I know nothing about wordpress.org, but will look at it and probably move that particular blog over to “.org”. Thanks for the helpful insights

  • This might be a useful link:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

Also, here is the URL for the .org support forums, a good place to ask questions:

Thanks. I can’t wrap my mind around the .org site at all…

  • WordPress.org sites to take more work on your part to install and maintain.
