Links not enabled on front page

    When I include a link in a post, that link is not enabled on the front page of my site. Rather, I have to click the Continue Reading link on that post. Then I’m directed to the full post page (sorry, but I don’t know the right terms for the different pages) where I can then click the link. I’d really like for people to be able to click the link from the front page – is that possible? Thanks. My blog is at http://www.rugglesonline.com.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Another note, I’m using the free version of the Sight template. Thanks again.

  • Hi there, Sight is one of several themes that’s set to display post excerpts on the front page. If you’d like full posts to be displayed on the front page instead, you’ll need to choose one of the many themes that works that way, since it isn’t an option that can be changed within a theme.

    You might want to have a look through the theme directory to find a theme that better suits your needs:

    Thanks. How can I search for themes that allow full posts to be displayed on the front page? I don’t see an option in the “Features” search to do that.

    Also, is there a way (with the Sight theme) to get the “Continue Reading” link to appear on its own line? It appears right after the last word in the summary, which is not easy to see or read. Thanks again.

  • How can I search for themes that allow full posts to be displayed on the front page?

    While that isn’t a feature that can be searched for in the theme directory, I do have a list of themes that display excerpts on the front page. That means all themes not on the list display full posts on the front page. :-) I’ll email you the list separately.

    Also, is there a way (with the Sight theme) to get the “Continue Reading” link to appear on its own line?

    That could be done by adding a bit of CSS if you purchase the
    Custom Design upgrade:

    .more-link {
    display: block;
    }

    Just let me know if you need further help.

    Thanks – I’ll look out for that email. If I do purchase the Custom Design upgrade, how do I see the theme’s base stylesheet? For example, how would I know that the “Continue Reading” link’s style is “more-link”?

  • One of the easiest ways is to use your browser’s inspector. In Chrome, you would put your mouse over “Continue Reading” and select “Inspect Element.”

    There are also tools like the Web Developer’s Toolbar, which has a “View CSS” feature.

    OK – thanks for the recommendations.

    Regarding the email you sent me: I’m confused about the ones below that say “via custom page template” – do they show excerpts via customer page templates, but full posts otherwise?

  • Where that’s noted, it means that the default display is full posts on your front page, but you can optionally activate post excerpts to be displayed instead. For example, for Nuntius:

    Upon activation, Nuntius displays your posts in a traditional blog format on the front page. If you’re happy with this, you can use it as is. If you’d like to showcase your content in a news-like fashion, then you can use the News Page template.

    To activate the News template, just create a new Page called “News Page” and select “News Template” from the Page Attributes module. Publish the page, and then go to Settings → Reading. Set the “Home Page” option to “Static Page”. Select “News Page” as your home page and then choose another Page to serve as your blog page. Hit “Save”, and you’re set!
