links to additional category pages are broken

Hi, I use categories on my homepage. When I do so, the category index page can be viewed with either the default URL, or a shortened one, ie:
site.com/category/news
site.com/news
will both refer to the same index of ‘News’ articles.
The URL containing /category/ works fine.
The URL without /category/ malfunctions when you attempt to go to the second, third, fourth etc page of News results.
However, the two URLs are the same page – in that if I go in to edit either, I am editing the same page.
How do I fix this?
I want to either disable the link so it does not appear without /category/ in the URL, or I want to fix the broken ‘next page’ links.

Of what site are you speaking? It does not work that way for sites hosted on WordPress.com, and for the site you indicated here, https://ebossplus.wordpress.com/news/ does not open https://ebossplus.wordpress.com/category/news/, as the first link refers to a static page (which does not exist in this case), and the second link to an archive page. It always works this way on WordPress.com, and there is no way to change this except by using a plugin on our Business Plan, which you don’t have.
If you have it set up to work this way on a self-hosted site using the open source WordPress software, you’ll either need to ask in the WordPress.org forums, or directly contact the author of whatever plugin you’re using to do this.
