    Hi, I have two questions.

I have log-in info on wordpress.org. Shall I still have to register on wordpress.com?
Also. Does wordpress charge the fee now? It seems different than in a couple months ago.

Looking forward to hear from you.
    Thanks.

  • Hi there,

You already have a login on WordPress.com. That’s what you used to log in to post in this forum.

WordPress.org is a website where the WordPress community works on the open source WordPress software. The only thing for which you can use a WordPress.org login, is to post in the WordPress.org forums, or to contribute to that software and community yourself.

To actually use that software, you need to set up a hosting account with a hosting provider like Pressable or Bluehost. Using that software is free, but hosting it somewhere will cost you money. When you install that software at a host, you will get an admin login that’s specific to that site only. That login cannot be used to log into either WordPress.com or WordPress.org.

WordPress.com is a hosting provider that uses our own version of the WordPress software, and your login with us gives you access to a free WordPress.com account. In this account you can create as many free sites as you wish, though we do also sell optional upgrades for those sites.

If you have a WordPress site at another host, you can also connect it to your WordPress.com account via the Jetpack plugin, but your WordPress.com login cannot be used to log into the admin area of such a site or into WordPress.org.

I hope this clarifies things for you, but please let me know if you have any other questions.
