log-in link/password recovery not provided

  • Unknown's avatar

    hello,
    I run a free wordpress.com site for which wp offer a password recovery service by email . Having lost my pw due to system re-set, I have requested that several times now and system response looks ok and says ‘we have just sent an email…” – only it never arrives! and no it is not in my spam. Can someone advise please. It is very difficult to get in touch with someone! PS I am now logged in through google but not in the account that belongs to my site – probably an old unused one that should have been deleted.

    Hi beaconsocialcare228983611,

    There are no WordPress.com sites listed in the account you are contacting us from. Can you send a link to the site you need to reset the password for?

    I’ll point you in the right direction once I know for sure.

    Thanks!

    somebody suggested yahoo might be blocking the email from wordpress w/password re-set completely ?

    yes, like I said, I was surprised that I could just use google to sign in to an unused account which should probably be deleted and probably is linked to (email visible only to moderators and staff)? _ I don’t need or want another account, so I’d be happy for this to be deleted, once I have access to the above again! Many thanks!

    thanks for looking into it Gemma!

  • @beaconsocialcare228983611 I can confirm the email we sent was accepted by the mail server. Can you check with your provider to see why they aren’t delivering it to you? Also, are you getting any of the emails from us, like the ones for your subscriptions?

    thanks for this, we are getting closer – I don’t think I have ever received any emails from wordpress to yahoo – it will be even more challenging to get in touch with them than with yourselves! are you sure it is not due to some confusion at wordpress due to the account I am logged in to now (which I won’t need once I am back to my site. Please bear with me and in the meantime continue to assist me to get access to my account.
    Incidentally, you may be in a better position to negotiate with yahoo than I am…? TY

    webmail sent to yahoo, awaiting reply: hi,
    this is the only way I could find to get through to yahoo. As far as I can tell, both my emails work fine shepherdbuk and beaconsocialcare. Only now I am having difficulties (for the second time in 4 years) to receive the email from wordpress.com with the link to change lost password. Their support staff have worked out that they have sent them and they were (several!) registered as accepted by yahoo/server. Only they do not reach me. And NO, they are not in spam either. Can you please look into this as a matter of urgency, as you are promising to provide a service which on this occasion seems to let you and customer(s) down. Many thanks.

  • are you sure it is not due to some confusion at wordpress due to the account I am logged in to now

    Yeah, I checked the address for user beaconsocialcare.

    What yahoo address are you checking?

    I am logged in to beaconsocialcare (at gmail)

    but there is no site here;

    the site/account I need access to and wordpress claim to have sent the pasword recovery to is the same (first part) at yahoo com;

    perhaps the easiest now would be to change that at your end = namely to link(or whatever your technical term is) my site solitary4tomorrow with the current account, so I can log in with google and see/edit my site

    I noticed that I have received 2 email from wordpress in 2014 following my request to delete the gmail linked account and only keep the yahoo linked. Then something must have gone wrong.
    Fortunately, the site is still up solitary4tomorrow (free wordpress) – so again if you agree please link that to the present account I CAN log into. TY

    We cannot do that without verifying your ownership of that site, and the only way we can do that verification is via our account recovery form:

    Recover Your Account

    The fact that you know the site address or the email address connected to an account does not prove that you own the account or have access to the email address in question. So please submit that form and someone from our account recovery team will reply to help you update that account’s email, provided you’re able to provide the verification required.

    in other words: I have instigated the password recovery process several times now, the feedback on screen looking as if the system had recognised my yahoo email address and sent email – but it never arrived. I would appreciate your help to get over this hurdle instead of repeating the same explanation of the process over. Many thanks.

  • I am not asking you to try resetting your password yet again.

    I am asking you to submit the account recovery form. This form does not send you an automated email, but submits a support ticket to our account recovery team, who will then contact you via email at the address you specify for that purpose to verify your ownership and help you regain access to that account. We cannot do that verification here in the public forums.
