logging in with Facebook when commenting may lead to error

Logging in with Facebook when commenting may lead to “ERROR: your url is too long”.
The wordpress.org bug report was closed as invalid, because 200 URL characters should be enough for everyone: https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/44257
Maybe you’ll increase the limit on your end, if Facebook integration is such an exotic feature.

Hi there,
Copying from the original bug report:
Looks like Facebook is inserting a very long URL in the website URL field from the comment form – a URL which is visible by clicking the “change” link in “You are commenting using your Facebook account. ( Log Out / Change )”
The length of that URL must vary by FB account, because I’m getting one of 195 characters when testing, while another user got one over 200 when trying to comment on my wordpress.com-hosted blog, triggering the error message.
Can you please provide more details on the error message? Where exactly do you see it? On the WordPress.com site? In the Facebook authorization window?
On which of the sites in your account did a commenter get this error? Did the comment post to the site at all, or did it fail completely?

I don’t. Someone trying to comment on my blog after authenticating with FB does, as a comment form submission error.

https://stefantalpalaru.wordpress.com/
Did the comment post to the site at all, or did it fail completely?
The latter.

Thanks. I see the issue. If someone tries to enter a comment as Facebook, instead of showing a profile URL, it gives us some random hash like this:
https://www.facebook.com/app_scoped_user_id/superlongstringofrandomcharacters/
That URL (if I had not edited it) would just redirect to a normal-sized Facebook profile address.
Do you know whether these individuals were able to comment via Facebook previously?

I went to file a bug for this and noticed someone else has also recently filed a bug on this issue. Thanks for reporting it here.

No, I have no info on that.
My Facebook URL was 195, 199 and 200 characters, with the hash part changing in length and content between logins on Facebook’s site (not just that logout on WordPress that probably deletes some cached values).
When it goes over 200, the comment form error appears.
