Loosing Facebook & Twitters likes
-
I recently moved from xyz.wordpress.com to xyz.com (via WordPress) and I have realised 2 things.
1. I have lost all FB and Twitter likes on posts published prior change.
I saw on some Forums (dated 2012) that this was fairly normal. Wanted to know if in 2014 things it was still normal, or if there is an operation I could do to get those back?2. Following the change of name, to communicate this I re-tweeted many of the old pages. I could clearly see on the number of visits that this had worked. However, despite new FB likes and Twitter re-tweets of the old pages (with same short link), social media accounts are still blocked at 0 or 1.
Any way around this anyone? Thanks for your time and help on this one.

Hi there,
When you’re using the official versions of the sharing buttons, the counted number of shares that you see on those buttons comes directly from each social media service. (So the number on the Facebook button comes from Facebook, the number on the Twitter button comes from Twitter, etc.) WordPress.com doesn’t have any control over what numbers are displayed on those official buttons.
Often, those social media services link those counts to your site’s address. So if you switch from one address to another (like xyz.wordpress.com to xyz.com), the count will be reset.
It may also take some time for new shares to be counted on those official sharing buttons, so even if you know the post has been shared you may not see the numbers on the buttons go up right away. (Each social media service may take some time to catch up.)
I hope this helps explain it! Please let me know if you have any other questions about that. :)
