Lost/blocked email notifications

• Unknown's avatar

I have recently discovered that notification emails are failing to get through to subscribers of my blog who have btinternet.com email accounts. They have tried all sorts of ways to sort this but to no avail. I believe they received the first 10 or so and then they stopped. For a while some went to spam, but when they marked them as ‘not spam’ this did not help. Has anyone encountered this before and/or have a solution?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, since this block appears to be coming directly from an internet service provider, it may be worthwhile having those users contact the ISP directly.

I’ve also flagged your thread for staff input. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.

• Hi there!

Thank you for reaching out. It sounds incredibly frustrating for both you and your readers. There is nothing quite like the “digital void” where emails just seem to vanish despite everyone’s best efforts to whitelist them. But don’t you worry, we’ll be more than happy to help you out.

We haven’t had this scenario before, but in this case could you ask your subscribers to check the following:

• Ask them to verify they confirmed the subscription by visiting https://wordpress.com/email-subscriptions/</u>. They may see the subscription pending.
• Have them check the basics, like their spam folder, the correct email address, and that they haven’t marked WordPress.com emails as spam.
• Ask them to visit https://wordpress.com/email-subscriptions/</u> and check the email frequency they have set for notifications from your site:
• The “email me new posts” option should be enabled.
• The delivery frequency must be set to “Instantly” for the email to arrive immediately. If set to “Daily” or “Weekly,” ask your subscriber to wait 24 hours or 7 days as appropriate.

If the site uses newsletter categories, ask them to confirm they’re subscribed to the category the post was published under.

Once you get a response from one of your subscribers, please keep us updated so we can dig deeper into this. You can find more information about this matter on our Support Guide: https://wordpress.com/support/troubleshooting-not-receiving-notification-emails.

Hi again, AFAIK, there have been issues with btinternet blocking emails from WordPress.com in the past, but not recently. Unfortunately, our forum search doesn’t go back more than a year or two.

@rmb20328 do please let us know if you and your subscribers are able to resolve this issue.

• Hi @rmb20328,

That does sound frustrating, especially since it was working before.

This is most likely filtering on BT Internet’s side rather than a WordPress.com issue. We’ve seen cases where providers start blocking emails after some time.

You could ask your subscribers to:

This guide may also help: https://wordpress.com/support/troubleshooting-not-receiving-notification-emails/

If possible, feel free to share (privately) one affected email address, and we can check from our side whether emails are being sent successfully.

Let us know how it goes.
