Lost blog content (tied to expired domain?)

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi! I’m hoping you can help. I had about 10 years worth of blogs hosted here and it was tied to brienne.net, a domain now expired. I can’t login anywhere it would seem and I’d like to get access to all that blog content so I can import it elsewhere or restart blogging with a new url. How do I get access to it now that my login is bust?

    Hello,

There are no sites listed on the WordPress.com account you are logged in to and brienne.net looks to be a self hosted site, not a WordPress.com site.

We are only able to assist with WordPress.com sites hosted on our own servers, so I’d recommend contacting your hosting provider for help. They should be able to help you get access to the site and may be able to provide you with a backup of your content.

Best of luck getting the problem sorted.

I had purchased the domain separately, but had it connected to a wordpress ProPhoto blog. The domain expired and my entire blog disappeared. Backups were done with wordpress, login and posting was all done with wordpress. Shouldn’t recovery be done with them as well?

    Hello,

I had purchased the domain separately, but had it connected to a wordpress ProPhoto blog.

As your account doesn’t contain any sites, I think you had a self hosted WordPress.org site, not a WordPress.com site. The differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org are explained here:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

We only have access to WordPress.com sites as they are hosted on our servers.

ProPhoto allows you to import content from another site and hosts in on their servers. If you had imported your content there, you could contact them to see if they have a backup.
