Lost domain to older iteration of our site, and cannot get it back?
-
I am a part of student organization that bought a domain for ourselves for two years. It expired, and we thought we were moving to another web service, so we deleted it. Now, we cannot recover the domain, and our old .wordpress.com domain shows our website from several years ago! I cannot edit it, but it is full of old information. Not sure what to do
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m not quite understanding the problem here. Clearly, you are logged in to http://theyalerefugeeproject.wordpress.com/. If you want a domain name but it is not available, well there’s nothing you can do about that. If you want to edit it, go to the dashboard at http://theyalerefugeeproject.wordpress.com/wp-admin and edit the posts.

Right, so we now have THEyalerefugeeproject.wordpress.com. We used to have yalerefugeeproject.com – which I understand to have replaced yalerefugeeproject.wordpress.com (without the ‘the’ at the beginning). Trouble is, we cancelled yalerefugeeproject.com, and yet yalerefugeeproject.wordpress.com seems to have come back into existence. If you check that address, it has our website from several years ago, which is misleading as it have very outdated information. I would like to move back to yalerefugeeproject.wordpress.com as it was our old domain, and especially as it has misleadingly outdated info, but I have no access to it. THEyalerefugeeproject.wordpress.com is just a potential makeshift option

yalerefugeeproject.wordpress.com never went anywhere. You may or may not have mapped that custom domain to the blog, but it always existed. You’ll have to find someone who had login access to it and get them to delete it, or you can simply start blogging on a new site and wait a few weeks or months till that site outranks the old one.
