Lost email/user AND no previous authentication codes
-
I recently replaced my hard drive and lost my password/email for my blog, Diary of a Cranky Dad. (It is also connected to mikegordon808.wordpress.com.) It was created around 2010 but the email I had then is no longer active and I did not change it, in part because I did not use the blog a lot. I had hoped to start now. Is there any way to recover this account?

Hi there, I understand that this may be difficult without access to your email, but are you able to follow the Account Recovery process?
Let us know if you have any further questions or issues after reading that.

Thank you for the speedy response. I read through the Account Recovery process and I fear the worst here. I do not have a Transaction ID (this was a free account, so nothing was purchased) nor do I have an Activation URL. Perhaps further complicating this: The email address I used when I first set this up is no longer active. It was the email used when I lived in Hawaii. When I moved to Oregon I changed to a gmail account and I cannot remember doing anything related to the blog using the new gmail account. Is there any hope here? Thank you.

I’ll be honest, I’m very doubtful that you’ll be able to regain access in that case. Nevertheless, I’ve tagged WordPress.com staff to see if they can offer a solution. :)

but the email I had then is no longer active
Then you must complete the form for account recovery at this link https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery and submit it to the Account Recovery Staff, and provide proof ownership, so they can contact you by email ie. not on these public support forums, which are available to everyone with internet access.
Use the Extra Details section on that form to provide the email address you registered with.

Please do not modlook threads like these.
Support Staff cannot breach the privacy policy and provide the log-in information. Users have to provide proof ownership to Account Recovery Staff to gain access by using the form at https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery

Hi @goofyfootmike, is there anyway that you could reactivate that old email address that you used? You might want to contact that email provider and see if that is possible. That is about the only way I can think of since you cannot use the account recovery.
@timethief, it’s ok to tag these as Modlook. We like to look at them to see if we can see any options. -
Thanks for the advice. The email account is toast at this point, so that isn’t an option.
So what happens to the blog? Is there any way to use the the name of the blog — https://diaryofacrankydad.wordpress.com/ — in a new one?
Thanks again.
Also, what is a modlook?

It’s a shame you didn’t make a note of your password somewhere. Typing your username mikegordon808 and the password and you’d be back into your site. Email addresses attached to accounts need to be kept updated for such an eventuality as this. The site will remain stuck in limbo and your only option will be to create a new site with a similar name.
Also, what is a modlook?
I was tempted to say clothing favoured by fashion-conscious men in the UK in the 1960s (and again in the late 70s/early 80s) but actually it’s a shortcut phase that members/volunteers add to the tag box on the right to ask WordPress.com staff to assist in a thread that cannot easily be resolved, such as this one.

Hi there,
So what happens to the blog?
The blog will remain active and publicly visible. We don’t take down blogs if they’re left inactive.
Is there any way to use the the name of the blog
Blog addresses cannot be used twice. The only way to use that address is only by accessing that account. Good thing is that there’s an infinite supply of addresses available on WordPress and therefore you can register a new one.
