Lost function in switch from Firefox to Chrome.
-
I am switching from Firefox to Google Chrome and find that my blog site in the move has lost the function ‘Site Admin’ from the ‘Meta’ section. How do I retrieve it?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Your site is identical for me in Firefox and Chrome, and I can see the Site Admin link in the meta widget on both browsers. That is just a regular HTML link. There is no way that switching browsers could cause it to disappear from your site.
You can also reach your dashboard via the direct link, here:

Hi,
Ok – For some reason the thing you said couldn’t happen did happen with my switching from Firefox to Chrome – the “Site Admin” function did not transfer to Chrome and the Meta Widget starts out with “Log Out” and “Site Admin” does not appear anywhere…
It asks me to request permission for access from the administrator, and since I’m the administrator how do I give myself permission for access…?

It asks me to request permission for access from the administrator
Where exactly does it ask that? In the widget, or when you click on a particular link?
Please clear your browser cookies in Chrome, and then check Chrome’s settings to make sure the browser allows third-party cookies. If you have a privacy add-on in Chrome, like PrivacyBadger, temporarily disable it, or add an exception for WordPress.com. Then log back into your account and view the widget on your site.

Hi Again,
I was able to find under Chrome Preferences the matter of third-party cookies and switched that function on – To my knowledge I don’t have a privacy add-on so can’t disable it…
Now what do I do…? The Site Admin function still doesn’t appear under the Meta widget…

Hi Once Again,
Ok – I followed your recommendations and cleared the cookies, and made sure that third-party cookies are permitted – I closed Chrome and rebooted my Mac and opened Chrome and signed on – Now, my blog site still doesn’t include “Site Admin” under the Meta widget…
Now what…?

This is very strange. Just to show you, this is what I see:
https://cloudup.com/cr6rOnl8JK7
The first screen shot is Firefox, and the second is Chrome, viewing your site as a logged-in admin. The third screen shot is the logged out view. As you can see, logged in it shows me the admin link in both browsers, and logged out I see the Register and Log In options.
Can you please take a few screen shots for me, and upload them to your media library, here:
https://journeysofabentmind.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php
First, visit https://www.whatismybrowser.org/ in Chrome and take a screen shot of that page for me.
Then take a screen shot of the widget as it appears on your site.
Lastly, I’ll need a screen shot of the code for that widget. Right click on the word “Meta” and select Inspect. That will open the browser inspector, and a like starting with “h3 class…” should be highlighted. Below that will be a line saying “ul”, and several “li” lines underneath. Click the arrows so all those lines are expanded, take a screen shot of the whole lot (you might need to resize the inspector panel) and upload that. It will look something like this:

Hi Again,
Ok – I see your screen shots of Firefox and Chrome – I get that my Chrome isn’t signed in as the administrator, thus the “Site Admin” function not showing up on my screen…
But – when I try to go to the first link you post I get this =
User gordon031217 Cannot Access the Dashboard Requested
You are logged in as “gordon031217” and do not have the necessary privileges to access the dashboard for “Journeys of a Bent Mind”. If you are not “gordon031217”, please log out, and log back in with your username. If you are “gordon031217” and you need access, please ask an administrator of the site to invite you.And when I try to open the second link it leads nowhere except to a black screen – see attachment 1…
Seems I can’t attach the screen shots to this response so I’ll send it from my iPhone directly to you at WordPress – I hope they get there…

You need to be logged in as the username who created this thread, journeysofabentmind, as that user is an admin on the site. The username gordon031217 is not an admin on the site, so you won’t be able to access the dashboard with this username.
Please log in as journeysofabentmind, and then you’ll be able to upload the screen shots to the media library as I asked.
if https://www.whatismybrowser.org/ won’t load for you, there’s a problem with your browser. In that case I recommend you contact Google support for help, as we can’t help you fix a problem with the Chrome browser itself.

Hi Again,Thank you for your patience with my ignorance in handling this problem – I’m trying…
I am afraid I don’t know how to log in as the administrator – a friend helped me see up my blog site and he’s moved so I’m lost as to how to log in…

Hi Again,
Ok – My daughter came over and as a user of WordPress was able to assist me in gettings straightened out – She was able to find that in the switch from Firefox to Chrome somehow I had a second user somewhere in the system that was activated (gordon031217 or something like that) giving me the wrong setting – She logged in and selected the one that I’d been using for Firefox and that fixed the problem…
I did enter two screenshots in my media library, one of the screen when I clicked on the link that was to take me to the media library which was totally blank/black, and the one with the coding for the Meta widget so you should find them there…
As things are now corrected and I am able to access the “Site Admin” function under Meta widget I’m satisfied with the operation of my blog site again…
Thank you for your assistance – I appreciate your efforts…

Hey,
You’re welcome – I appreciate all your patience in helping me through the initial parts of this, and even tho I wasn’t able to resolve this because I was in the dark with what you were suggesting, tho that wasn’t your fault, I appreciate that you stuck in there with me – I am blessed in having my son as a computer technician for VISA, daughter-in-law a credentialed librarian with a background in computer technology as it applies to library science, a son-in-law a computer engineer, and a daughter who worked in customer service with Adobe for years – in addition I have one genius 13 year old grandson who takes after his dad the computer engineer with skills far beyond what I or my wife have – Anyway, my daughter’s help was able to resolve my problem – It was a second unofficial user name in my profile that somehow was entered and selected when I switched from Firefox to Chrome – It is now working just fine…
Again, thank you for your help…
