Lost password (and email address!)
-
I’ve lost my password, but the email address I’ve given wordpress is now defunct. I’ve changed academic institutions, and my old address has been discontinued. I can currently access my group blog by using the group name, but I’d like my posts to be registered under my own name.

Do you have your API key? It was sent to you in an email when you signed up for your account – you were told to keep it safe for times like this – or did you buy an upgrade using your old account and saved the transaction record?

Thanks. The thing is, all of wordpress’ correspondence was stored in an email account the I’ve since been locked out of. (It was a student account, and I was less than diligent about sifting through my mail and re-routing all of my contacts and correpsondence.) Now I can’t even have wordpress change my password, because they’d have to send the message to a closed email account.

We will need either the API key, an email from the address on file, or a transaction ID (if you purchased something from us) to restore access to the account.
In this case, I recommend trying to get your old student email address back. Most universities will allow you to re-open it for a month or so.

Hi, and thanks. I’ve contacted my school about temporarily reinstating my account. We’ll see how that goes. If that doesn’t work out, I’m wondering if there’s any other way. For instance, I do hold the administrator email and password for the (group) blog. I receive correspondence from wordpress through that account. My only problem is that I want to post under my own name, rather than as the (anonymous) administrator. Is it enough that I have that proof of identity?

You could open a new account – the only unique is the email and account name – so you could still have your public name as your “real” name and also a link to a web site if you wanted
