lost phone and unable to disconnect 2fa

Lost phone and unable to disconnect 2fa – I can get into the account with backup codes but I’m unable change the 2fa details as I am unable to receive 2fa by sms or the app.
-
Just follow instructions as given at https://wordpress.com/support/security/two-step-authentication/#if-you-lose-your-device.
-
The issue is my phone is lost which had my authenticator app on it – so while I can get in to my account using the backup code I cannot turn off 2fa…
-
Instead of a verification code, you must enter a backup code to turn off 2FA, https://wordpress.com/support/security/two-step-authentication/#disable-two-step-authentication
-
Sadly that doesn’t work – from the page you shared>>
The page will show that the feature is enabled, and you can click the Disable Two-Step Authentication button. This will prompt you to enter a code to confirm that you still have access to the device you originally used to set up two-step authentication. If you’re using an authenticator app, open it and provide the code it lists. If you’re using SMS, you’ll be sent a code to use. (This code is different from the code you used to log in to your account. You can also use one of your backup codes for this step.)

Despite what it says that didn’t work and I had tried that earlier… Not quite sure what has happened because I have only used 3 backup codes – I needed to regenerate the codes and then turn off 2fa – which worked first time with the new regenerated codes…
