Lost "Right Now" and "Plugins"
-
My site (http://wordwritersguild.wordpress.com) has lost “Right Now” from the dashboard page and also seems to have lost the Plugins menu on the same page.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
We recently updated the dashboard, and the “Right Now” section was renamed to “Site Content.” You may need to scroll down on your dashboard to find that section. If you’d like, you can drag and drop the different sections on your dashboard to rearrange them, too.
Plugins, however, are not available here at WordPress.com, for security reasons. Plugins can only be installed on self-hosted WordPress blogs (running the free software available from WordPress.org). You can read more about the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org here: WordPress.com and WordPress.org
If there’s a particular plugin feature you’re looking for, please let me know and I can help you find out if there’s a similar feature available here at WordPress.com. :)

I appreciate the help. I’m now able to access the information that I thought was missing.
That still leaves the bigger question: why? Why take something that does its job wonderfully well, change its name, and scramble its contents (losing information in the process)? “Right Now” reported 8 numeric values; “Site Content” only reports 3. On top of that, why make changes to a page that I use daily without notifying me?
I’m very happy with the help offered. But, I’m very unhappy with WordPress.

Hi there,
You can see an announcement about these dashboard changes on our blog here: http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2013/12/02/theme-widget-improvements/
I recommend subscribing to that blog to stay up-to-date with all of the latest changes here at WordPress.com. :)
These latest changes are part of the updates to the WordPress software over at WordPress.org, and we’re bringing them to all of our users here at WordPress.com. If you’re interested in contributing to the changes to WordPress, and providing your input and feedback, you may want to get involved in the open-source WordPress project: http://make.wordpress.org/
Cheers!

Okay, one more thing. How do I get “Site Content” to stay at the top of the left column? It keeps moving back to the bottom left.
-
It can take a little bit for changes to stick when you move the boxes like “Site Content” around on your dashboard. If it stays at the top when you first move it there, but then switches back when you leave and come back to your dashboard page, it means the change just didn’t stick. You may need to wait a minute or so after you move the box, before clicking away from your dashboard page, to make sure that change is saved.
Please let me know if you have any other questions about that. :)
