Magnet link in wordpress

    Hey,
    why can’t I share magnet links ?
Is there a way to do it ? Thanks.

Here is what I tried ; I swear the ‘html source code’ should have worked : https://magnet168825666.wordpress.com/test/

You can try it yourself, please ? I swear I also thought it was a ‘user manipulation problem’ but I did bothb tried to add the link by the WYSWING interface and as HTML and both fails ; so it must be wordpress related issue.

What say you ? Do you refuse magnets intentionnaly or is it a bug ?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Magnet links don’t work as hyperlinks on WordPress.com, no. You can find the URL protocols that are allowed on WordPress.com here:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/beginning-html/#adding-a-link

But I found an old thread with a workaround that you can try:

“Security” is shutting down the magnet protocol ?
Could you elaborate ? On why it’s not an authorized one ?
…I think this might be an hilarious situation.

You tell me to use a solution which require trusting a random untrusted tier with publicity (which is exacly what I think is called a REAL security issue) ?!

Really ? You are getting out with the SECURITY reason ? Are you serious ? I’m outraged.

I guess the workaround to get the shit done is to use javascript to go around your little “security” nonsense. But this is a bad solution, I know it is. And it’s totally a political choice from you guys, I really doubt there is a real security problem about this.

  • Hi, unfortunately the JavaScript wouldn’t work here.

Here’s a list of code allowed on our servers:

    Add Code to Your Site

If you want to use code outside those restrictions, in this case I would recommend using a self-managed WordPress installation with another host. Then you can modify the software as you like.

Thanks for the time, then. It is great to have answers this fast, even if I’m not happy by what I hear. At all.

I really assumed that a buisness relying on a free software would value freedom of basic content/usage.

Your political “thing” thought, it really bothers me, and I really don’t want to support it in any way now. Thanks for filling me in, at least I didn’t lingered. – I know what I must :)

  • You bet.

    Your political “thing” thought

If you’d like to send further clarification we’ll pass it along. Thanks!
