Mail service fnot available when domain is hosted on WordPress server.

I bought a domain from Moonfruit, as I had used their platform to build websites previously so I had a free domain voucher, and they always give you 5 free email accounts so it seemed to make sense.

I approached them to assist me with amending the DNS records so that I could then ask them to change the nameservers over to WordPress as per your instructions on how to map a domain.

They have said now said that it’s not possible to use their mail service while the domain is hosted on another server, and that once they change the nameserver those mailboxes will stop working.

I haven’t used the mailboxes yet as I have only just started to set up my blog, so if I ask them to change the nameserver anyway, is there a way to set up new mailboxes with WordPress or does it not work like that?

They said the only other option is to embed the blog onto a Moonfruit website, but I have no idea if this will look clumsy or make things slower or something like that.

I’d be grateful for any help… thank you so much.

  • You need to ask them for MX records as described here:

Let me know what their reply is.

    Hi they’ve said the following:

It is only possible to have a Moonfruit mailbox if we point the domain to WordPress using a CNAME and A record provided by them. If the nameservers are changed it is not possible to have mail with Moonfruit, my apologies for the inconvenience.

Another alternative is that we release the domain to your direct control, this would allow you to access the domain through our domain partner Gandi.net and would give you additional options for using your domain.

Please let me know what would be best to ask them to do now?

    Thanks again for your help.

  • The best way to map a domain to a WordPress.com blog is to set your domain’s nameservers to the following values:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

However, if your registrar requires that you create A records, please note that our IPs change over time. Because of this, your domain might stop working at some point in the future. If that happens, please get in touch with us to find out the most current IPs and then update your A records accordingly.

If you still want to go ahead and map your domain using A records, please be sure to create at least two, pointing to two different IPs from the list below:

    192.0.80.250

    192.0.81.250

    66.155.9.238

    76.74.254.120

    66.155.11.238

    76.74.254.123
