mailchimp

    Hi there,

I want to add the mailchimp widget so people can sign up to my mailchimp newsletter, but I don’t seem to be able to add widgets/plugins that aren’t part of the limited list on my wordpress.

Is this because I have wordpress.com rather than .org? Or is it because I need to go premium? I’m told by other .com wordpress users that they have far more control of widgets etc than I do – is there a problem with my particular site or theme?

In short then, please advise me on the best course of action for being able to add widgets (e.g. mailchimp) to my site!

    Thanks for the help:)

    Hi there,

WordPress.com has a range of built-in widgets and features inspired by plugins. The Text Widget can be used to add a lot of different sorts of content, but certain code (like the code used to embed a mailchimp form) isn’t allowed at WordPress.com, even with upgrades like WordPress.com Premium.

Instead, I’d recommend creating a link to your mailchimp signup form from your site. WE have a guide for creating Text Widget Links for that, and visitors can then follow the link in the widget to get to your signup form.

If you have a self-hosted WordPress site using the software from WordPress.org, you can install additional plugins and widgets on your site. However, there are a number of added responsibilities with a self-hosted site — I’d recommend learning more about WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org to see if it’s right for you.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)
