Major Account Issues

    Hi,
I created an account with my business email address about 2 weeks ago. When I tried to log in today, I used the Google login with the same email. Doing so created a new, apparently separate account with a different username (buzz5f0f3af050d). When I tried to change the username to the correct one (mollybeeTBD), I got a notification saying that I couldn’t do so because that username was already owned by a different account. It must have meant my account, since the username was available when I set that account up, and I claimed it at the time.

To avoid having duplicate accounts, I deleted the new account with the incorrect username and tried to log in via the older account with the correct username. When I attempted to do so, it said that the account had been deleted. It seemed at that point like I had no account at all, with either the email or the uesrname, but I couldn’t create a new one with the same email address, and the username still seemed to be taken. I’m not able to recover the account through the recovery form because I don’t have proof of payment (hadn’t bought anything yet), deleted the account activation email (nobody saves those), and hadn’t set up two-factor verification (not necessary for my purposes).

Now, I’ve been able to use a different email address to create my account, and I’m able to use the @mollybeetbd username. The only problem is that this account doesn’t have my current business email attached to it, and I’m not able to change my current account’s email to the correct email because that one is ‘already taken.’ I just want to have my blog connect to my actual email. I’m pretty sure this problem can only be solved by someone who actually works at WordPress, but I have no way of contacting them 🤦🏻‍♀️ Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

  • Hi, the email (the business one) you used on your other account will be released 30 days after the account’s deletion. Then you’ll be able to use it on your current account.

If you don’t want to wait, we can help you restore the account you deleted and then guide you through releasing the email address. To do that, please reply to the account closure email we’ve sent you.
