Make new website w/old on line then transfer domain to new site?

  Can a new website be built while old one is active and then transfer domain name to new website?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Hi there,

  This depends on the old website. Are you speaking of a website on a custom domain with a different hosting provider?

  If so, then yes, you can build your site with us on the free WordPress.com address that’s automatically created when you create a site with us, and you can leave mapping or transferring your domain until you’re ready to do it.
