    how can I find out who is responsible for a malicious and libelous posting on WordPress, full of untrue, harmful accusations

    Hi there, here is a useful support document that talks about lodging complaints for such cases. Please read through it in its entirety and especially the section talking about the two kinds of WordPress sites, self-hosted ones and then ones that are hosted here at WordPress.com.

    I would suggest the first thing to do would be a whois lookup on the site address and look at the nameservers. If they say wordpress.com, then the site is hosted here and you can lodge a complaint for our legal people to review. If it says something other than that, it is a self-hosted site and we have no control over those, so you would have to take the issue up with the site owner or the web hosting company.
