Map a domain

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I talked with my registrar to change the nameservers, but they answer me that I need an URL and a DNS type A to make the change, in order to redirect the domain to wordpress and keep the email with them.

    So why can I do?

If I change all the DNS can I manage my email (@irishsummer.cat) like a POP/SMTP account from wordpress?

    Thank you,

    Jana

    Hi Jana,

The best way to map a domain to a WordPress.com blog is to set your domain’s nameservers to the following values:

    • NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    • NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    • NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

However, if your registrar requires that you create A records, please note that our IPs change over time. Because of this, your domain might stop working at some point in the future. If that happens, please get in touch with us to find out the most current IPs and then update your A records accordingly.

If you still want to go ahead and map your domain using A records, please be sure to create at least two, pointing to two different IPs from the list below:

    • 76.74.254.120
    • 72.233.69.6
    • 72.233.2.58
    • 66.155.9.238
    • 76.74.254.123
    • 66.155.11.238

If I change all the DNS can I manage my email (@irishsummer.cat) like a POP/SMTP account from wordpress?

WordPress.com does not offer email service, but if you set your nameservers to point to WordPress.com, you can enter custom DNS at this end to continue using email with another email service provider. We have instructions for doing that here: Add Email

Please let me know if you’d like further help with that!

    Thanks Rachel,

But if I would to create A records with your IPs, which are the DNS type A?

    The same NS1.WORDPRESS.COM / NS2.WORDPRESS.COM / NS2.WORDPRESS.COM ?

Please, I beg you an answer for dummies… ;-) Because I am not an expert and I feel that I miss something with your explanation.

I need a name, TTL, Type and value.

Would you be so kind to provide me this information, please?

Thank you very much for your help,

    Jana

    Hi Jana,

If you aren’t sure how to set up A records (DNS type A) I recommend contacting your domain registrar for assistance. You can tell them the following:

I would like to set up A records to point my root domain to at least two of the following IP addresses:

    • 76.74.254.120
    • 72.233.69.6
    • 72.233.2.58
    • 66.155.9.238
    • 76.74.254.123
    • 66.155.11.238

Here is an example of the information you requested for a record using the first value in that list:
    name: @
    TTL: 14400
    type: A
    value: 76.74.254.120

Each record you create should use a different value from the list above. You should create at least two records, but you can create six records using each of the values above if you want.
