Mapped Domain Expired
-
Our Blog is down due to this expiration. We thought we were on an auto renewal. What do we do to fix this situation asap? Please help. Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Oh no! Expired means over, dead, done and finished. https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/ We focus on not allowing domains to expire so others can purchase them when they are auctioned off and that’s why we have an auto renew feature. https://en.support.wordpress.com/manage-purchases/#auto-renew
Staff need details to recover the domain.
1. What is the domain URL?
2. What is the underlying .wordpress.com URL?
3. Exactly which username account registered the underlying .wordpress.com blog and purchased the upgrade for it?
4. When was the upgrade purchased?
5. When did the refund request and upgrade cancellation, or the domain expiration take place?
I will type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for a Staff follow-up. Thanks for the quick response.
1. above
2. springupblog.wordpress.com
3. Good question, we had a contractor set it up for us years ago.
4. We have been premium since we have had the blog
5. cancellation on 3/4I thought we were auto renew, and I have no idea where the notices went for renewal but they didn’t come to either of us that use the blog. Basically, I am hearing you say we should develop a new domain to use, because it isn’t coming back anytime soon. Correct?
-
We did receive the renewal notice below and it did get paid.
Your WordPress.com plan for springupblog.wordpress.com renews soon.
The WordPress.com Premium plan on your site “springupblog.wordpress.com” will renew automatically in 30 days. You will be charged $99 for this renewal on February 3, 2017. The charge will be made on your Visa 2699, and will appear in the statement as WPCHRG.COM
You don’t have to do anything — this is just a reminder.
Happy WordPressing!

Hi there,
The domain mapping for your site belongs to another user: springupblog
You need to be logged in as that user to renew it, and that user should also be able to renew it without having to buy a plan – you’re seeing that message because you don’t own any existing upgrades on the site.
I do see the site also has a Premium Plan already, owned by the user, davehogg. The best solution here would be to transfer the domain mapping to davehogg’s account, or transfer the Premium Plan to springupblog’s account. That way I can link the domain mapping to the plan, and it will be renewed as part of the plan.
I’ll just need those users to reply here to confirm if I should move the upgrades.

Hi kokkieh. The issue is that the contractor that made the springupblog user name 7 years ago is no longer in business and I have no way to know where the password reset is going, but I can confirm it isn’t going to Dave Hogg or I. Davehogg responding isn’t a problem, but springupblog isn’t a real person, nor have they signed in for at least 7 years. I guess I am confused as to why this is happening now when it hasn’t been a problem previously. Please advise as to how we get the mapping transferred to the davehogg account. Thank you.
-
It looks like the davehogg account transferred that mapping upgrade to the springupblog account only last year. The springupblog account also owns the site itself, so I would recommend you try to regain access to that account. Should you at any point accidentally remove yourself as an admin, for example, we won’t be able to add you back without the springupblog account’s permission, for example, as that’s the site owner as far as we are concerned.
You can find the recovery options here:
As that mapping upgrade is already expired I can remove it and add it to the Premium Plan in davehogg’s account, but I’ll need Dave to please comment here and confirm that he agrees to the free domain in his plan being used for this domain.

Thanks Kokkieh. After doing some more research. Here is the situation from last year that must have gotten this messed up. Sorry it is so long. P.S. I will have Davehogg comment shortly.
Below is the transcript from your recent chat with WordPress.com.
davehogg Who is the “subscription owner”?
Velda Hi there
Velda Which site?
davehogg springupblog.springwoodhospitality.com
Velda Thanks
davehogg ???
Velda I’m checking on it for you right now
davehogg Thanks
Velda This upgrade is actually owned by you
Velda Are you having trouble renewing?
davehogg Yes
Velda Are you going here? https://wordpress.com/purchases
Velda If you’d like I can set up a manual payment, but you should be able to renew there.
davehogg “This subscription was originally purchased by another user. Please ask the subscription owner to renew the subscription.”
Velda Oh I see what’s happened
Velda Okay. This did look like it was under your account but it’s under another user instead: springupblog
davehogg I thought I had already renewed it.
Velda Are you able to log in as that user?
davehogg Don’t think so.
Velda We have been sending notices to that address
Velda Did you get any of the expiration notices?
davehogg I see – I was on my personal blog and I wanted to be on springup. I’d actually like to keep springupblog and kill the other two blogs altogether.
Velda Okay, you can do that
davehogg How?
Velda You’d need to get access to the other though. Did you buy the upgrade before or did someone else set that up?
davehogg Dunno
Velda Do you remember paying for the upgrade?
davehogg I got this on Jan 5: WordPress.com Premium on your site “springupblog” will automatically renew in 29 days. This upgrade includes custom design features, no ads, as well as a free domain. You will be charged $99.00 for this renewal in 29 days, on February 3, 2016. You don’t have to do anything — this is just a reminder. You may receive another email regarding the renewal status of your upgrade. This confirms that this upgrade is set to auto-renew. More details can be found on our support page. If you have any problems or questions, please do not hesitate to contact Support.
Velda Perfect — what email address did that go to?
davehogg (email visible only to moderators and staff)
Velda Hmm, well, the address we have on file is something slightly different (and as strange as it sounds I can’t give that out)
Velda But I can show you the other username:
Velda Go to https://wordpress.com/people/team and click on your site
davehogg And I got Receopt #15546363
Velda Oh okay, that would work. Does it have a transaction number in it?
davehogg Paypal reference #?
Velda Yes, that’s it
davehogg [redacted by staff]
Velda The transaction number is enough to prove you own the upgrade, so I can transfer it to you
Velda hmm, this is for Premium, it doesn’t cover the domain mapping
Velda Do you know who initially set that up?
davehogg This is very hard. What do I have to do?????????????
Velda I’ll help you figure it out
Velda Someone else initially bought domain mapping
davehogg springup was initially set up by a consultant we no longer use.
Velda Okay
Velda I’m going to try sending an email to the address on file, can you let me know if you get it?
Velda Also, since Premium usually covers the cost of domain mapping, I’m going to update the domain mapping expiration date so it matches your Premium expiration date, so that it will work for now
Velda buying us more time to sort out the ownership problem
davehogg Going into an appt now. no email yet. GTG
Velda Okay, I’ve sent an email, and fixed the site so it doesn’t display an expiration notice. We’ll work the rest of this out via email. -
As that mapping upgrade is already expired I can remove it and add it to the Premium Plan in davehogg’s account, but I’ll need Dave to please comment here and confirm that he agrees to the free domain in his plan being used for this domain.
I agree. Let’s get this thing fixed so we don’t have to leave WordPress.
-
Thanks for confirming. I’ve added the domain mapping to @davehogg’s account and linked it with the Premium Plan in that account, so going forward when the plan renews, the mapping will renew as well.
The domain should work immediately, but you may need to clear your browser cache first to see it.
-
springupblog had an email address from an expired domain. Can you please change its email to (email visible only to moderators and staff)?
Thank you!
-
-
To change the email for the springupblog account you will need to go through the account recovery process. We cannot allow other admins on the site to make changes to an account on the site they don’t own.
But thanks for letting me know it’s working now.
