mapped domain will not load

    Hello,
I have my GoDaddy DNS servers for mydigitalgenome.com mapped to the wordpress DNS IPs but the site will not reslove/can’t be found. I can’t access the dashboard for mydigitalgenome.com to see if the mapped URL is still correct. PLEASE HELP ME. I had two blog posts that I do not want to lose.

    Hi there,

I see that the domain mydigitalgenome.com is using WordPress.com name servers, but it isn’t mapped to a WordPress.com blog. You can use this domain with a WordPress.com blog by going to Store > Domains in your blog’s dashboard. From there, you can click on “Register or Map a Domain Name” and follow the on-screen instructions to add this domain to your blog.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

    Hi Rachel,
Thanks for the reply! I mapped my domain– I had let that feature expire. Unfortunately, I had two posts that I really loved that I hadn’t backed up and they are gone. Bummin’. I don’t suppose there is anyway to recover them?

    Hi Christine,

I see that you re-mapped the domain, so you’re all set there. :)

Letting your domain mapping expire wouldn’t affect your posts, though. All of your posts are saved under Posts > All Posts in your dashboard, even if your domain mapping expires. The only way those posts would have been lost is if your domain was linked to a different blog before (either at WordPress.com or a self-hosted WordPress blog) and you wrote the blog posts there.

It may be possible to find cached versions of those blog posts by searching for them on Google. If you can share the titles of those posts, I’ll be happy to help you search for them. :)

    Hi Rachel-
The two posts were 1) What seems impossible which used to resolve to http://mydigitalgenome.com/wordpress/?p=15 and 2) The world’s not flat and other things samurais forget which used to resolve to http://mydigitalgenome.com/wordpress/?p=103

I think I had set that URL up as a WordPress add-on through GoDaddy. Maybe that’s the problem?

Can’t find any cached copies :O( and of course, I didn’t save off the text to my hard drive. Appreciate your help!

    Hi Christine,

Based on the links to those posts, they were definitely created with a self-hosted installation of WordPress and not on WordPress.com. That means we won’t have any record of them here.

I recommend contacting GoDaddy to see if they have any backed-up copies of your WordPress site — since they hosted the site, they would be the ones who might have something backed up that you can recover.

    I hope this helps!
