  Hi there, if you have a WordPress.com website that you’d like to use with a custom domain that you registered somewhere else, domain mapping is the way to do that if you don’t want to transfer your domain to WordPress.com

  Having said that you can also use your free wordpress.com base address without a custom domain for as long as you like.
