Mapping a domain I already own

I own a .com and .ie domain I want to map them on wordpress.
When I selected the option to map a domain I already own it brought me straight to a payment gate way to input my card info. I know i have to pay for it but before i do pay for it I am wondering how does word press know I already own these domains and will it all work. It didn’t run a check to see if they are free or if I own them?The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

We do not check to make sure that YOU own the domain you want to map. That said, it would be impossible to map a domain to WordPress.com if you did not own it. That is because the second half of mapping a domain (after you purchase the upgrade) is to log into your domain’s registrar and change the nameservers to point to WordPress.com.
So, while you could tell the system you wanted domain mapping for google.com, you wouldn’t be able to change the nameservers to successfully point it to WordPress.com.

Thanks. So I am logged into the management part of my hosting Ireland account where it is letting me change the name server. Do I literally type
ns1.wordpress.com
ns2.wordpress.com
ns3.wordpress.comIn this section, or do I put the name of my wordpress blog?
I don’t see how putting the above is going to locate my blog?
Might sound like a stupid question but I am new to this and am trying to figure out how it all works.

Yes, you need to enter:
ns1.wordpress.com
ns2.wordpress.com
ns3.wordpress.com
…as the nameserver values.
Don’t worry, our system takes care of the rest on this end of things.

Thanks You, you are a great help. Since getting my domains mapped to my wordpress blog. I learnt that I could get my self some hosting with a hosting company. I could then use wordpress to install a much better theme. That will make my blog look like a professional website
However now I am wondering if I get the hosting can I use my pre-existing wordpress blog to install a new theme on to create my new website through my hosting account?, or will I have to create and use a new wordpress account.
I am basically wondering if I will lose my pre-existing very basic blog and all its content completely if I try to upgrade it by turning it into a website using a blu chic theme and hosting account? -

You will need to export any content from your WordPress.com site and import it into your new site through your webhost.

Hey there,
So i exported the content from my blog saved it to me desk top.
I then purchased web hosting. When i logged into the c panel.
In the section softaculous apps installer. I saw the wordpress logo. When I pressed it and tried to install it I got an error message.“installation cannot proceed because the following filed already exist in the target area” index php
it is telling me to please delete or select the option to overwrite them I didn’t do any thing as im not sure.
I also tried the option that said import on wordpress access through c panel of hosting account and got a error message that way also it said their are some errors when importing dramadiaries.com. Any Ideas? -
You will need to work with your webhost’s support team for this, I’m afraid. We cannot assist with sites that are not on our servers.

I have installed word press on my hosting account. Now i am wondering how exactly I import the data from My old wordpress free account that has wordpress.com in the url to my new one.

Sorry, there has been an error.
This does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version numberI just selected the exported zip file I had previously exported from my first blog and saved to my desktop. I don’t know what im doing wrong.

Again, I’m afraid that we cannot help with self-hosted WordPress.org sites. The data is not on our servers and we have no access to it.

I am new to all of this and just realizing the logic of what is what and how it all works etc and whats done on wordpress end and what is done on my host end etc. Thanks you have been very helpful so far :). -
Hi sorry to keep being a nuisance.
But I paid for mapping with wordpress because I already owned the domains I bought with a hosting company. I didn’t want the wordpress.com to appear in the url and I wanted to be able to use more professional looking themes and remove adds. However when I purchased the mapping with wordpress, wordpress.com still appeared in the url. So then I thought that I must either have to pay for .org or buy web hosting. I then watched a tutorial about how I could get a blu chic theme on to my website/blog. In the the tutorial she purchased web hosting and imported wordpress.
So I then cut my loses with what I paid for mapping and signed up with a hosting company. However last night when I was installing a theme on to my blog. By accident I installed it on both blogs the old and new. and realized that I could install the bluchic theme on my first blog any way.
So I am wondering what exactly am I getting out of paying for web hosting with a hosting company that wasn’t already on the initial wordpress blog, and when I paid for mapping with word press is that a once off payment and should it have removed the wordpress.com from the url? I am going to put this question to my hosting company also as I am not sure if it should be directed at word press my hosting company or both? Thanks,

No, you did not need hosting. For some reason your mapped domain was just not set as your site’s “primary” domain. So the system was just displaying your ________.wordpress.com URL.
So I then cut my loses with what I paid for mapping and signed up with a hosting company.
I would be happy to refund the Domain Mapping upgrade if you are not goign to be using WordPress.com.

It is not possible to install externally purchased themes on WordPress.com. That is something that would require a self hosted WordPress.org site.

Generally, the ability to install 3rd party themes and plugins are the most common reasons that someone would choose a self-hosted WordPress.org site over a WordPress.com. Ease of use, support, and security are the most common reasons someone would choose to use WordPress.com over a self-hosted site.

Thanks that was really helpful. I am back and forward like a yoyo trying to figure out whats the best bet for my self. I have been back and forward switching which servers my domain should point towards. wordpress or hosting company! weighing up the odds of what seems best as i try navigate between the two options. If I decide to stick with the hosting company the refund would be appreciated i will let you know.
It was a free blu chic theme that I used and its currently installed on my initial blog https://dramadiariesblog.wordpress.com/about/ and my dramadiaries.com site.( adelle theme.)
I have tried to install jetpack on to dramadiaries.com I had to use the wordpress i am currently logged into. It says its installed but I cant see the dashboard the girl in the tutorial I am watching is accessing. I am trying to access the dashboard of apps where I can access social media icon plugins and css pluggins where I can try change some of the design of the current site. Hope this makes sense I am currently learning whats what. Thank you for your patience and guidance so far.Also does this mean once I have hosting adverts will be removed and that I can add css to current site. Social media plugins etc??

Yes, you can do all of those things with your self-hosted site.
