Mapping Domain – charging

    Hi there,

I manage a few blogs via wordpress and have always registered them with Go Daddy and then mapped the domain over to WordPress. This has always been free in the past, but now I am being asked to pay £84/year. Why are you now charging for this? All I want to do is remove ‘wordpress’ from the web address so that it reads tomkylearchitects.com and NOT tomkylearchitects.wordress.com. I might be missing something, but I would like tomkyleachitects.com as my primary domain, but without paying £84 to do it. I have never had to pay this before, so am I doing something wrong, or has your policy changed?

    Thanks,

    Jess

Sorry, I should add, I have paid a mapping cost of about £15 year, but i have never had to pay for ‘WordPress.com Premium – annual subscription’ and I can’t remove it from my order without removing the ‘mapping’ cost as well.

There were changes but it was a couple of years ago. People who have had domains or domain mapping only for a number of years can continue to renew at the same prices as long as they don’t allow them to lapse. Any new sites/accounts need an upgraded plan for a custom domain or to map a domain they purchased elsewhere. It doesn’t have to be the Premium plan though. The cheaper Personal plan will work too.
