Mapping Domain Name

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,
I am trying to map my wordpress blog to my domain name.
It is listed as 11pounds but when I try to pay it says ‘pay 85pounds’
Why is that? What is wrong? Why is it asking me to pay 85 Pounds instead of the listed 11 pounds?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi xxifyxx,

It was previously possible to add domain mapping as a stand-alone upgrade, but that was changed last year. It is now only possible to add mapping as part of a plan — £85 is the cost of the Premium plan.

A domain can be mapped using any of our paid plans (Personal, Premium or Business):

    https://wordpress.com/plans/

Once you’ve chosen a plan, add domain mapping for your chosen domain.

Come back to me if you have any questions.

This does seem confusing, what I think is happening is that it’s defaulting you to the Premium plan when you try to map your existing domain – but (sneakily in my opinion) it doesn’t present you with the option to choose between Personal, Premium or Business plans, it only shows Premium.

To test the theory I’ve just upgraded to the Personal plan (£30 for the year) and clicked the Claim my Domain button whereupon it had the Add Domain Mapping option included and no need to pay £85.

As per gemmacevans, choose the plan first and then add the mapping to avoid the higher charge.

Yes, if you choose domain mapping first, the Premium plan is automatically selected. However, you can choose any plan you like from the Plans page :) I’ll pass on your feedback though!
