Mapping My Domain

  I currently have my domain with another entity and for the time I would like to keep it with them. If I ‘map’ my domain today, does that mean my new site goes ‘live’ immediately before I have a chance to complete my new website? Kevin

  Hi Kevin,

  If you create a site on WordPress.com it’s live instantly, already on the free WordPress.com address we issue for you when you create your site. When you connect your custom domain, or even if you do that, has no effect on whether or not your site is available online, indexed by search engines, or accessible to people who know the address.

  If you don’t want your site to be live, you can set it to private after you finish creating it. Then it will be visible only to you until such a time as you decide to set it back to public.
