Mapping my WordPress blog to my domain
-
Unfortunately WordPress’s Support instructions to make a WordPress blog a subdomain of a main domain website are – to me, at least – clear as mud. Is anyone able to point me to a step-by-step set of easily understood instructions that show me how to do this?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Subdomains are just plain confusing, period :)
If you want your WordPress.com site to appear on a subdomain of another site, do the following:
1) At the host of your other site, go to your DNS panel for your domain.
2) Add a new CNAME record. In the first field (usually called Name), add the subdomain you want to use. In the second field (usually Points to or Alias of), add your WordPress.com address prmattersblog.wordpress.com (so without https://)
3) Give the change an hour or two to update, then go to My Site ->Domains ->Add on WordPress.com. Select the Map It option and add your subdomain.domain.com that you want to use.
Please let me know if you need any more help with this.

Hi kokkieh
Thanks so much for your speedy and excellent, helpful reply. If the Suppor pages were as clear as you have been, I think I would not have faced problems in the first place. So I’m glad to say I’m no longer drowning, and look forward even to the prospect of waving. I’m now just awaiting the third stage (point 3 of your steps) to finalise. Much appreciated.
May I ask one more thing: is it or isn’t it necessary – to do this subdomain mapping – to have a premium plan with WordPress, or is this something I could have done using your guidance without a paid-for plan?
Regards
Robert

Hi Robert,
I’ll take a look if we can’t simplify the support page for mapping subdomains. (Nice poetry reference :) )
Now accounts can only add domains as part of a plan, but as your account was created before this change you should have been able to add mapping only. If you don’t want the full Premium plan you can cancel it from the Purchases page:
https://wordpress.com/purchases/That should cancel the plan and leave the domain mapping, and issue a partial refund for the plan.

Great response and just what I was hoping on all points. (And here’s to Stevie Smith!) Many thanks, especially as it strikes me as horribly price-painful to spend so much for only one feature!
Best wishes

Thank you. I’ve cancelled it, but wonder if WordPress will now cancel my subdomain/mapping? Here’s hoping not!
Best wishes

We won’t cancel it, no. The mapping is still on your account and will expire end of June next year.
