Mapping or redirecting, which to do? or should we do both?

    I am helping someone with a current website who wants to change it to a more user and manager friendly site. They own their domain, but it is very difficult to manage. I have suggested switching to WordPress, but I’m not sure which option would be best: redirecting or mapping. I don’t want to have to move all the old content, but I want to build some thing similar for future use. He currently uses 1stHostWeb.com.
