Mapping the Domain Name to WordPress site
-
Hi,
I wanted to register a new domain and direct it to my blog in wordpress. But earlier in January, when I complete all the details of the credit card and press the button to process, I got this error “This transaction cannot be processed. Please use a valid country on the billing address”. Now Sri Lanka has been removed completely from the list of countries.
I lodged a complain in Jan on WordPress
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/payment-issues-through-a-credit-card-for-a-new-domain?replies=2#post-1132001%23postformkathrynwp of wordpress replied to my message as mentioned below
“Unfortunately, Sri Lanka is not currently supported for the type of credit card transactions that we do through PayPal as our payment processor. We’re sorry for the inconvenience. You may want to try an alternative route, by attaching a credit card to your PayPal account, and making the payment directly through PayPal, instead of your credit card. Let us know if this works.
If this doesn’t work and you purchase your domain through another provider, please let us know and we can arrange to have domain mapping set up so your domain can be pointed to your WordPress.com site.”
Now as other things didn’t work, I’ve purchased a new domain through Go-daddy. As mentioned, I appreciate if you can arrange to have domain mapping set up so your domain can be pointed to my WordPress.com site now..
My wordpress site: http://www.window2nature.wordpress.com
New purchased URP: http://nature-news.netThanks and regards,

Domain Mapping is $13/year, so the upgrade would still need to be purchased. If your country is blocked by our payment processor, you could still pay with Bitcoin: http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2012/11/15/pay-another-way-bitcoin/

Alternatively, you could get a hosting account through GoDaddy too and install WordPress from http://wordpress.org/

I entered the name servers in Go-daddy.com account. Can’t I get it redirected from there only..?

I entered the name servers in Go-daddy.com account. Can’t I get it redirected from there only..? I meant, without changing anything from WordPress side, can’t I get it redirected from using Go-daddy only..??
-
No, name servers just point the domain to WordPress.com in general. Domain Mapping is what points it to your WordPress.com blog and replaces your WordPress.com blog URL with the domain.

Thanks.. But I don’t mind the URL remains same, after a user get redirected to my WordPress blog,
Ex.
1) User types http://www.nature-news.net
2) User is redirected to http://www.window2nature.wordpress.com
3) User can browse through my blog, but URL shows http://www.window2nature.wordpress.com partPlease instruct me how I will be able to do this as I need this redirection quickly..
In the Go-daddy, i had updated our domain’s name servers to the following: NS1.WORDPRESS.COM, NS2.WORDPRESS.COM, NS3.WORDPRESS.COM.. What next..?

Even for a simple redirect from another website..?
I don’t mind paying, but I can’t pay it through WordPress and i tried other website you mention with digital currency, but it didn’t work :( I could do this last time – but this is harrassment for your users from Sri Lanka :(

GoDaddy may have a redirect option, but it won’t work properly without mapping here.
Unfortunately, we have no control over which countries our payment processor chooses to block.
As mentioned earlier, you could get a hosting account through GoDaddy too and install WordPress from http://wordpress.org/

Please help me on how I can “get a hosting account through GoDaddy and install WordPress from http://wordpress.org/”..??
-
You’d have to pay GoDaddy for a hosting account, there’s probably an option somewhere in your panel with them. Then, download and install WordPress from http://wordpress.org/ (GoDaddy may have an auto-installer).
Once that’s done, you can move your content following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.
http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/WordPress.org has complete support and documentation sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress at:

It’s similar to WordPress.com, but there is a lot more management that needs to be done.
It’s really the only way to get a working WordPress blog under your domain name if you aren’t able to pay us.
The only other option would be to pay us for Domain Mapping with Bitcoin: http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2012/11/15/pay-another-way-bitcoin/
