mapping vs domain purchase/renewal

  hello. i just mapped a domain i own to my wordpress page. is it possible for me to continue my annual renewal of the domain name through wordpress, or do i need to continue renewing through the original hosting site? I am assuming that mapping is differentnfrom purchasing a domain name, correct?

  While we register new domains here at WordPress.com, we’re not able to accept incoming transfers of existing domain names. Therefore, we recommend that you keep the name registered at your current registrar.

  Yes, mapping allows you to use a domain registered elsewhere with your WordPress.com site. If you map a domain that is not registered elsewhere, it will not work.
